Hillsborough Schools Foundation (HSF)

Every great structure begins with a solid foundation. Our award-winning schools are no different. The Hillsborough Schools Foundation helps to ensure your child has access to a world-class education in an inspiring and nurturing environment. Please read below or visit http://www.hsf.org/ for more details.

Who would have believed in 1980 that the newly formed Hillsborough Schools Foundation (HSF) would be such a success, becoming a crucial part of the Hillsborough City School District's (HCSD) funding? In the past 37 years, HSF raised over $53 million for the Hillsborough schools.

HSF was one of the first nonprofit public school foundations in the country, a leader in the movement to secure private funding for public schools. For 34 years, the parents and neighbors of Hillsborough have supported HSF, creating one of the most successful public school foundations in the nation, supporting all areas of our schools' curriculum.

Last year, we raised over $3.45 million providing critical funding for the educational excellence we expect in Hillsborough. Together, we have pioneered a new approach to public education by making our children and their futures a key priority in our community.

While our community is donating dollars for our schools through the Annual Giving Campaign, we are also participating in HSF Events, which raise substantial revenue through exciting community activities and events. Each fall, HSF Events sponsors the Hillsborough Classic (tennis tournament and luncheon), followed in the winter by the Dinner Dance and Auction. We close our school year with Family Fun Run in June, a great community-building affair. Our school year is packed with wonderful events and fundraising, and HSF appreciates the enormous commitment of our families to support excellence in our Hillsborough schools.

Your Pledges, Attendance at events, Volunteering, and Enrolling online make it possible to continue Hillsborough's tradition of excellence in education. Thank you for your generous support through the years!

HSF also plays a vital role in fostering volunteerism and community support by hosting three fun-filled events during the school year. In the fall the HSF Events program begins with the popular Hillsborough Classic (tennis tournament, luncheon, auction, boutique shopping and fashion show). Next, HSF Events invites you to join the event of the winter season–the Dinner Dance and Auction . Our school year will end with Family Fun Day, an event which combines the Fun Run and Carnival for one great community building affair on the North School field.

Our schools have received 26 California Distinguished School Awards, 7 National Blue Ribbon Awards, and 29 Kent Awards for Innovative Programs. Our success is due to high quality staff, committed and involved families and community members, a supportive Board, a cohesive vision, and a strong commitment to excellence.

More than two decades of research findings are unequivocal: the most important aspect of a school in terms of student learning is teacher quality, and our teachers are among the best!

Students in K-2 have access to a reading specialist. 3rd-5th grade students participate in our Innovation Labs where they create and explore. K-5 students participate in music classes, and 4th-8th grade students have access to instrument instruction. Spanish instruction begins in 4th grade, and Mandarin is offered in our middle school. All of our schools have a dedicated counselor, teacher librarian, physical educator, and more!

Through the generosity of donors, the Hillsborough Schools Foundation pledged $3.5 million to our schools for this school year. Last year's Fund-A-Need raised funds for traffic and safety. Thank you!
